leadershipOn request of Mushtaq Mehmood I have choosen this topic. I believe if we can understand & develop leadership qualities within ourselves this would entail a happier & productive life. Based on the significance of the topic I have decided to do a three part series. I’ll try to make the process and the acquisition of these skill as easy as it could be… so that everyone could follow through …  and acquire these skills for a better future …

Part # 1- Leadership – Understanding the Basics.

Part # 2 – How to become a leader. (Activities / Games / Habits)

So without wasting time lets dive into learning what actually is leadership:  as per text book definition its ;

” A process that influences other people to achieve an objective and guides the company in a way to make it more coherent and cohesive is called leadership. “

or

“process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task.”

Now those definitions are pretty much correct. But for me .. leadership means one thing “Inspiring others”  and like most of the skills this needs constant practice, refining & tweaking.

Now if a leader has to force you to do something then he definatly lacks leadership skill.

The question might arise why do we need to learn about leadership. Well in todays world, we have many followers but not that many leaders … Now this is an oppertunity. Yes we have a unlimited supply of Team leaders, Group Leaders etc etc .. but truely ask yourself if you were part of any such team, did they inspire you … 90 % of the time the answer would be “NO” you had to follow them because of the position they were put in and vice versa ….

Having this quality can differntiate you from the rest of the group !!! I very good quote needs to be mentioned here :

Only one man in a thousand is a leader of men — the other 999 follow women.  – Groucho Marx

Reason I mentioned this because its actually true , that one person who posses leadership quality is one amongst not 999 , its 999999 (population have increase I guess since that quote was said :D )  and this quality shows , radiates from your every word , from your every gesture , from your actions and speech, goals, vision.  If you have it … then that is all you need to get to the top.

I can’t emphisis more on the need to develop this skill … and know this , its very much acquireable .. many says that leaders are born , well I won’t agree here … for me I am more of a believer that ” LEADERS ARE MADE ” and if you have the will then you can be a leaders too …

Let me end this article with this quote :

‎”Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”

So what you’ve done in your life before this moment , you can’t change that … but what you do now onwardsd will change & shape your life to come … so take action ….

If you have any topic on which you want me to write about (has to be personal development / self improvement or related) do let me know I have the time & will to share my thoughts and research to make it more informative.

To your success ….

Communication is the most basic skill dat the leader must have ,If you cannot communicate effectively, then no other leadership skill will compensate for this lack. There should not be a zero error in getting n giving information to his follower..

  8. Very good observation Ambreen // the clarity of communication is imperitive for any leader … cause else how would be inspire or influence people to do the right thing … caues others might missunderstand what needs to be done !!!

  9. Mohemmed Owais

    welcome.

  13. Ambreen Fatima ‎

Your equation is awesome but it is also important in communication dat you must be listened by the audience ..

  14. Hasnaat Ahmad Mirza

To me , its not the bookish definition but the observation i have made so for..”
“The Person who is well accepted by the audience through his communication skill, and who could sacrify in any circuimstances to be roll model to uplift the aud…ience moral to achieve a common goal”

Islamabad Leadership is a right-brain activity…………….while management is left-brain activity………………… Leader makes right decisions while management makes decisions right.

I am sorry my Friends considering the present world scenario We are not discussing here any aspect about the decay of leadership in societies…These all novel & fancy bookish ideas are based on appraoch of positive mindset, attitudes and… behaviors ofcourse but perhaps they are hardly relevant to realities of leadership on grounds… i am sorry to turn the table like this and draw your attention to discuss the negative aspects of leadership of today not only in our society but also in so called and so known Civilzed societies from developed part of the world….Considering ongoing disrespect of humanity, social economic and political disparity and imbalance and miles and miles of widening gaps between rich and poor we really need to discuss the roles and approach of not only politicains , civil and military bureacrats but also of those CEOs in the corporate world…who passed out from world renowned Leadership T&D Institutions where they were preached and taught not at all what they actually have praticed to bring the world at this stage wher humanity is taking last breath..

  17. Tirmizi ‎

my appologies for not adding my thoughts to your comment earlier … I tried but everytime I started writing something came up .. anyways whatever you said holds ground too … I mean during the current situation the world… and the people of Pakistan are in , how could this apply …

But I would disagree … I think the traits or skills of the Winners (leaders) have stayed the same now as they were centuries ago and will remain the same regardless of circumstances … casue winning is a habit that comes from combination of belief’s and qualities that one has …

Now these things might seem bookish but believe me , I used to think the same and avoided reading or adopting such activities …. but now I see how my life has changed from what it was a couple of years before .. so I am a believer , that things can change , and whatever written might not always be wrong ….

Tirmizi Sb: despite being a trainer and HRD person myself in passion..i am sorry to hv written all that out of my frustration..but my concern is that we as trainers and trainees can develop our selves and only to extent of those who do not matter in society…

  20. ‎@Tanvir sahab // thanks for your words of wisdom .. I think we as humans and having the blessing of some knowledge & positivity have the responsibility to spread it regardless of the outcome , weather our efforts are being appreciated or not or making a dent as we expected or not …

  21. Tanvir Ahmed Siddiqui

I am With You my Friend..i brought this all up not merely to fuss but to give you an idea that in all our HRD modules we need to relate these aspects to our audience..especially when we discuss case studies and role models..Thank You

  22. This is exactly why I respect and regard your thoughts very highly cause you are the person with the real time experience of training n all .. I think myself as a student making mistakes in this , I have the passion but I think I have to study alot more & do alot more towards making any contribution at all at this ..
