Million $ Question ! Do you love your J-O-B ????
Posted on: March 27, 201010 comments so far (is that a lot?)
The initial plan was to write about my experience that I had of purchasing something online and its journey till my place … But while thinking about it and the people involved in the whole process it brought my attention to another issue. Which not many would have thought about or discussed but its a reality …
So I have cancelled or delayed my plan to blog about that experience perhaps some otherday .. but this one is more important …. So the million $ Question is ….
Do you love your J-O-B ?
Why its important … all of you at some point would have experienced this thing, like gone for payment of some bill @ the bank and the clerk was very rude or mis behaved . or called at some helpline and the CSR at the other end of the phone was not helpfull @ all. I mean you can come up with zillion of similar incidents.
The reason I am mentioning this is … that we have such kind of people all around us .. perhaps we are one of them … who are not satisfied from there J-O-B for one reason or the other … and it becomes just another formaility for us. To go to office and deal with the formalities and come back home.
Perhaps that is the reason we haven’t developed or progressed as a Nation cause we have indulged ourselves far too long in doing conventional J-O-Bs that we don’t like, just because they pay well and in 95 % of the cases , cause we have that option only.
I always believe in constructive criticism or highlighting the issues for the sake of solving them. So here is what I would like to suggest to those guys which are 98 % of us working class …
So here are the key points to start liking your JOB:
1- Create a Goal of your JOB
2- Make your work interesting.
3- Be Creative / Think out of the box. (Your creativity more often then not will be appreciated and that appreciation could give you the motivation that you were missing)
4- Create a list of tasks that you hate and the one’s you like about your job. (SWOT analysis – Delegate the tasks you hate to someone else if you can)
Important tasks to do while you are doing a JOB that you hate :
1- Identify what you like to do, whats your special skill or what kind of JOB you’d like to do. (Don’t just go for a Multinational company or a high paying JOB)
2- Identify that do you have all the required skills needed for the JOB. If not then spend time (after your current JOB) learning / acquiring those skills.
3- Keep your eyes open for the available opportunities in that particular area / sector / field.
4- Network with people in that field.
5- Share your ideas with some positive (optimistic & pessimistic) friends …. Gathers both of the views and then weigh the pros and cons.
6- GO FOR IT WHEN YOU ARE READY. Many plans fail because they just stay on the paper and no implementation as 90 % of the people are too damn scared of thaking that step into the darkness or risk.
7- AIM AS BIG AS YOU CAN ( Like I always say to myself, jiss nae thoraa dainaa hai who zaidaa bhi dae saktaa hai .. (Allah kae bass se bahir thori kuch hai)
Another very motivational quote that changed my way of thinking that might be appropriate for this, goes something like this ;
“ The loss of the person who aimed to high and wasn’t able to achieve it isn’t big , then the loss of the person who aimed low and got it.” If you understand this then you’ll always aim high and work equally hard. If this is not understandable ask me.
Rest I hope these few tips would help you in having a better future !!! and eventually being more productive for your family & Pakistan.
Do leave your thoughts in comments. I really love to read different views & thoughts on this topic.

jobs are of very complex intuition for one to go along. My way of entering a new job is to keep silent and watching means observing the culture of an organization in order to identify the strengths and weaknesses of individuals (called SWOT analysis). From management perspective when one enters a new job cultures, he certainly presumes that all the systems are malfunctioning but it is not so……..Ultimately we have to become a part of that system which clearly means that from day-1 one should go along with instead criticizing…… Also once you are a part of administration you have to please so many people
A very important issue raised indeed. I have been a failure in job, and the only reason was that i could not stay quite , i could not do a thing which was wrong for me though may be right for the organization. i was asked to be diplomatic, compromising and a person involved in saving my own skin, but I got my skin so much burnt that it has lost its identity even . I am not saying that all are dishonest in pakistan but what i say is that honesty is a hard nut to crack in Pakistan and perhaps every where around. undertaking Job is not a straight task, therefore i feel that children frm the begining are to be coucilled to be an enterpreneur that is An individual who, rather than working as an employee, runs a small business and assumes all the risk and reward of a given business venture, idea, or good or service offered for sale. The entrepreneur is commonly seen as a business leader and innovator of new ideas and business processes. with this counselling ultimately when he employs people he will understand perhaps the need of self respect and weightage opinon of others, regardless those may not have any substance.
presently our children are educated in majority to obtain a job and the first condition to continue a job is mind your own buisness and hence the present state of Pakistan We have gone so busy in minding our own buisness that institutes and organizations have lost their value
Tirmizi bahi its a complex issue and it need lots of brian storming and unfortunately such topics are not taught in early classes. i am happy you have raised this issue and I will be very happy if people take interest in this issue. This issue is so important that it must be delibrated side by side along with all other major issues needing delibration. i will end my present remarks that if those officers who were made to kidnapp the missing persons from pakistan if were ducated as per the norms would have never obeyed the illegal orders but because they were trained in minding their own buisness so they obeyed and slep peacefully not realizing that what will happen if tomorrow they will be abducted too and it has happen indeed, its all lack of education and foresightedness which has led us to here
Great initiatve keep the good work up ….
@Imtiaz: It is indeed while being in Pakistan buh not imposible. I have done almost in all my jobs same like raising voice for my self, colleagues, juniors if management’s behaviour was not good or if they did’nt sent appraisal or did’nt give incentive so i kept on changing my job n even after having decent qualification n many international ceftifications n diplomas n degrees i kept on rolling n now sitting in new organization
buh it is like this everywhere not only in Pakistan. I m saying this coz i have experienced it even out of Pakistan that in every country almost (Racism, Flattering n bribe) these r the common weapons used in organizations to select persons according to there own choice who work on same fomula of “Mind ur own business” buh v can find good organizations as well buh after gaining experience of so many years n sooooooo many organizations i concluded never to mess wz management n wait for your turn n when u get a chance to become manger or any other influencial post then slowly start promoting the people really deserve promotion. This is the only way v can do if v r “Naukar paisha” else if any1 of us running his/her own business can apply the last said formula first.
@Imtiaz Hussain // Thanks for sharing your story !!!! exactly this is very unfortunate for people who are more interested in getting ahead in the game based on there skills and competence.
The problem I feel is that we are tunned to have a slaved kinda thinking … (Sarkari Job) and you can’t leave it because of its benefits (house etc) but with time the change is coming … as we have seen in last 4-7 years with emergence of many new telecom players , lots of jobs have been created in number of department.
Next big thing inshAllah as I can see it … is Enterpeneureship …. We are living in a fortunate times , believe me if I am saying this … Paksitan is land of oppertunities , we are surrounded with problems / Issues etc … what does that mean .. .
PROBLEMS NEED > SOLUTIONS
So to all the you guys out there , see what the problem that people around you are facing / you are facing and then provide the solution and you never know !!!! you might indulgde in something BIG …

You are absolutely right about seeking solutions.
For me the basic issue is unemployment in youth sector. Only we can do by joing hands and helping youth to enter jobs whether it is government and private . These will provide new blood and may be provide a better nation by mentoring by the old ones who have been staying on that seat for a while
I have a boy working for me, has huge potential if he works with dedication. But his family thinks he should have some SARKARI JOB even if he gets some “Meter Readers’” Job in Wapda.
For his Family important is the job security…
The foremost olution o every evil in Pakistan is ” EDUCATION” we are educated to be slaves, even now the education imparted is absolutely not revolutionary its prototype of a colonial society. Second we must inculcate the habit of “RESEARCH” with education. The internet has compounded our roblems, with tis advent we are just coying our thesis from the internet changing the words and phrases and even sometimes we are not doing that and submitting and obviously getting accepted.
My ” DISTIRCT DEVOLUTION PLAN ‘ solution and if some day we can conduct a ” studycircle’” i am ready to present the idea.
Like i have mentioned ” ENTERPERENURSHIP” has the answer and we can develop few such circles ourselves to spread the message
As long as we live and as long as frustration is there there is a always a chance of improvement so lets
paiwasta reh shajar say umeed bahar rakh …
@Imtiaz Hussain // Well I have a few thoughts , I’ll call you up and I think we shouldn’t wait and waste time over this , and share this as soon as we could !!!!
let me work out a few dynamics .. on this …
One day all the employees reached the office and they saw a big advice on the door on which it was written:
“Yesterday the person who has been hindering your growth in this company passed away. We invite you to join the funeral in the room that has been prepared in the gym”.
In the beginning, they all got sad for the death of one of their colleagues, but after a while they started getting curious to know who was that man who hindered the growth of his colleagues and the company itself.
The excitement in the gym was such that security agents were ordered to control the crowd within the room. The more people reached the coffin, the more the excitement heated up. Everyone thought: “Who is this guy who was hindering my progress? Well, at least he died!”
One by one the thrilled employees got closer to the coffin, and when they looked inside it they suddenly became speechless. They stood nearby the coffin, shocked and in silence, as if someone had touched the deepest part of their soul.
There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it could see himself. There was also a sign next to the mirror that said:
“There is only one person who is capable to set limits to your growth: it is YOU.
You are the only person who can revolutionize your life. You are the only person who can influence your happiness, your realization and your success. You are the only person who can help yourself.
Your life does not change when your boss changes, when your friends change, when your parents change, when your partner changes, when your company changes. Your life changes when YOU change, when you go beyond your limiting beliefs, when you realize that you are the only one responsible for your life.
“The most important relationship you can have, is the one you have with yourself”
Examine yourself, watch yourself. Don’t be afraid of difficulties, impossibilities and losses: be a winner, build yourself and your reality.
The world is like a mirror: it gives back to anyone the reflection of the thoughts in which one has strongly believed. The world and your reality are like mirrors lying in a coffin, which show to any individual the death of his divine capability to imagine and create his happiness and his success.
It’s the way you face Life that makes the difference.
Praise be to Allah Who fashioned my nature and gave it a perfect form, and Who honored my face and made it good, and made me one of the Muslims.”
Anas ibn Malik (r.a.) reported that whenever the Prophet (pbuh) looked at his face in the mirror, he (saws) would say the above. Fiqh-us-Sunnah Fiqh 4.126
Thanks for the great post. Good advice! Work day to day can be extremely difficult. Is the answer to enjoy what you do or do what you enjoy? It’s tough. Thanks for you insight though.
Thanks for the post! I’d love to see more like it.
